It’s an age old problem… you buy a standard 3 bed semi-detached house which fits your needs perfectly at the time, and seems so big that there’s surely no way you will outgrow it. But you do. Then you struggle to see how you could possibly make it work for you without having to move. Well you can! Whether you just need an extra bedroom adding or an entire full home renovation, we’ve put this post together to show you how we recently transformed a standard 3 bedroom semi into a stunning and luxuriously spacious 4 bedroom home.
We were approached by the client who had obtained approval on plans to carry out a significant extension and renovation to their home in Harborne. From our initial meeting it was clear that the client wanted to transform the appearance of the house to the rear, with a contemporary modern design, whilst keeping the traditional appearance of the property to the front.
Part of the planning condition was to feature a fully glazed roof on the ground floor so not to reduce light on the neighbouring property. With this in mind we contacted West Midlands Glazing, who we have worked with on similar projects, to provide all the glazing to the rear. With the anthracite aluminium windows and doors, the natural way to compliment was to have a rendered finish to all new and existing brickwork. All complimented by a large porcelain patio and steps to the rear.
- Underfloor heating throughout
- Log burner with internal flue
- Multiple folding doors
- Fully glazed linked garden room
- Rear dormer with glass balustrade
- Large porcelain patio area
Internally the new design consists of a large open plan kitchen and family room leading into the fully glazed garden room. The first floor now has a large master suite with two further bedrooms and a family bathroom. The second floor has another large bedroom suite with dressing area and en-suite. The top floor suite also features a Juliet balcony with folding doors allowing the room to be fully opened on warm summer evenings.
It can be incredibly challenging to really imagine how a home renovation project could pan out. Which is why it is always worth engaging with a design and build company such as Kiwi Design and Build, to help you see just how extensive your options are.
